Attack of the Cheap Seats and PITT ARTS Art Fair Kick Off the Academic Year with Public Arts Offerings

August 25, 2009  PITT ARTS at the University of Pittsburgh offers two public programs to the Pitt population beginning in the fall semester that promise to engage a significant range of the arts and University communities.

On September 9, 2009, the 6th annual Attack of the Cheap Seats will be held in the William Pitt Union Assembly Room, beginning at 12:00 PM and running until 2:00 PM. Free lunch will be served.  All the Cultural District Cheap Seats partners will be there, selling their entire seasons or any parts thereof, including the Pittsburgh CLO whose CLO Cabaret series will be on sale with highlights being Forever Plaid and Nunsense.

The Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre offers such classics as Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake, and more.

The Pittsburgh Opera will sell blockbusters including Carmen, Falstaff and Eugene Onegin.

Pittsburgh Cultural Trust is selling stunning performances for the August Wilson Center for African American Culture, featuring Lalah Hathaway, spoken word artist, Marc Bamuthi Joseph, and dynamic dance company, Philadanco.  Additionally the Trust will sell tickets for Stomp, Click, Clack, Moo, and for magician David Copperfield, among many other offerings.

Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra will vend such giants of classical music as Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with its beautiful Ode to Joy, Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, Holst’s The Planets, Mozart’s Requiem, and many more, as well as Pittsburgh Symphony Pops concerts featuring the wildly popular Music of the Beatles and Cirque de la Symphonie.

The Pittsburgh Public Theater explores the classics with The Price by Arthur Miller, and Lillian Hellman’s The Little Foxes, and paves a different kind of territory with Ella: A Musical, to name a few.

Don’t miss the chance to buy deeply discounted “Cheap Seats” tickets for some of the shows, or all, while enjoying a free lunch!

Also, on September 17, 2009, PITT ARTS hosts it 11th Annual Art Fair in the William Pitt Union Ballroom

Held from 11AM to 1:30 PM and including free lunch served at noon, the PITT ARTS Art Fair features tables with staff from approximately 30 Pittsburgh arts organizations, including Pittsburgh Opera, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Andy Warhol Museum, Mattress Factory Art Museum, Carnegie Museums, Pittsburgh Public Theater, MCG Jazz, Guitar Society of Fine Art, Pittsburgh CLO Cabaret, and many others.

Pitt attendees not only get free lunch, but can also pick up literature from the arts organizations, talk to staff and find out about what is happening with the upcoming seasons and exhibitions for 2009-2010, sign up to win prizes and ticket-giveaways, and try their hand at making arts-related objects.
