Only One Week Left to Get Free Visits to Museums!
There are some fabulous Free Visits opportunities and a little bit of time left to enjoy them at our local museums. Until the end of April it is still free for Pitt students with a Valid Student ID to visit the following museums. Remember that Free Visits are suspended during the summer months and recommence at the end of August 2009.
The Andy Warhol Museum
The Vader Project

This exhibition includes 100 works by contemporary international artists utilizing 1:1 scale authentic prop replicas of the Darth Vader helmet used in the Star Wars films. Each helmet was a blank canvas for the artist to paint, design, and customize. These iconic helmets of the notorious movie villain were created by some of the biggest names in today’s pop surrealist and underground art scene. Pitt students (w/ I.D.) are FREE until 30 April 2009.
The Mattress Factory
Thaddeus Mosley Sculpture (STUDIO/HOME)

This solo exhibition highlights both the professional and private life of sculptor Thaddeus Mosley. For the exhibition, Mosley’s complete artist studio and portions of his North Side home will be documented, transported and reconstructed within the Mattress Factory’s galleries. An opening reception for THADDEUS MOSLEY: SCULPTURE (STUDIO | HOME) will take place on Friday, April 3, 2009, from 6:00PM to 9:00PM. Admission is $10. Mattress Factory members. Laboratory of Architecture/Fernando Romero

The ambitious work of young Mexican architect Fernando Romero and his practice, LAR (Laboratory of Architecture), is explored in this exhibition of 20 key projects. Illuminated models are complemented by large photographs of Mexico City that depict the context for much of Romero’s work. Informed by his studies of Mexico City and the U.S./Mexican border, Romero responds to the challenges and hopes of Mexico with new building forms, imaginative structures, and concepts for civic space. Romero is also currently working on projects in the United States, Europe, and China. Pitt students (w/ I.D.) are FREE until 30 April 2009.

In celebration of Pittsburgh's 250th anniversary, the History Center's newest exhibition, Pittsburgh: A Tradition of Innovation, celebrates our region's incredible impact on the world.
The new 16,000 square-foot exhibit, features more than 50 hands-on activities and audio-visual displays, to help tell Pittsburgh's definitive story.
Beginning 16,000 years ago at Meadowcroft Rockshelter in Avella, Pa., through George Washington's first experiences in the French & Indian War, and Lewis & Clark's groundbreaking expedition, Pittsburgh: A Tradition of Innovation celebrates our historic accomplishments all the way through our 21st century role as a leader in medicine, higher education, and robotics.
